Archers, Old Dart Foundation Got Me Through

One could pursue greater heights in their educational journey under any circumstance — provided there is a steady sponsor.

My four-year educational journey towards a Bachelor of Health Management and Systems Development at Divine Word University would not have been possible if it were not for the British scholarship, the Old Dart Foundation.

I was a recipient of the ODF Scholarship for three years. I owe my bachelor’s degree to the ODF Scholarship, and I would like to thank the DWU ODF Scholarship — Professor J. Kuzma and Kossy Sindek — for keeping the ODF Scholarship running for the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences here at DWU.

Why ODF chose me

The ODF Scholarship was specifically designed for students from rural and isolated parts of Papua New Guinea. ODF sponsors students from remote locations in PNG for one reason — to give back to their local communities what they have learned at tertiary institutions after graduating.

I came from a village in PNG only accessible by canoe and on foot, so I fit this aim of the ODF.

Building back home

While still being a student under the ODF, I started a project to build a Community Health Post in my village. I have also designed a project proposal to build a road to my village after completing a water supply project.

Fulfilling the ideas of the ODF has been my main focus — I love the idea. There is a tangible outcome to the investment.

The right kind of investment

While the remotest parts of PNG cannot be reached by basic services, students sponsored by the ODF can make those changes — and I believe the ODF is doing the right thing. As a product of the ODF, I love what I do, and that is community development and community service.

I would once again like to thank the DWU ODF Scholarship management, and I look forward to working with the ODF on anything to do with health projects and the scholarship.

Transforming Lives Through Education

For over a decade, ODF has partnered with Divine Word University to support talented students from rural and remote communities across PNG — removing financial barriers so they can return home as nurses, doctors, teachers, and leaders.
